Zoho Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer, Sridhar Vembu, has called on Indian professionals living abroad to return home and contribute to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Vembu referenced a recent research report highlighting the massive fiscal contributions of Indian immigrants in the United States. The study showed that Indian immigrants and their descendants contribute an average of $1.7 million to the U.S. federal budget over 30 years the highest among all immigrant groups.

Acknowledging this, Vembu wrote, “India sent her best,” praising the global success of the Indian diaspora. However, he quickly shifted to a patriotic appeal, urging them to reconsider their long-term stay abroad amid rising anti-immigrant sentiment in some Western countries.

"From the migrant perspective, why stay where you are not welcome? Bharat Mata wants you, needs you, and welcomes you! Come home, let’s create a strong and prosperous Bharat,” Vembu said.

The tech entrepreneur, who himself relocated from the U.S. to the rural town of Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu, emphasized that India must not only retain its brightest minds but also attract those who once left in search of better opportunities.

Vembu’s remarks have reignited national discussion on “brain drain” and reverse migration. While many praised his patriotic call and optimism about India’s growth, others pointed to challenges such as bureaucratic bottlenecks, infrastructure gaps, and policy limitations that often drive professionals abroad.

Meanwhile, Zoho continues to expand its technology portfolio. The company is currently testing end-to-end encryption for its homegrown messaging app Arattai, seen as India’s answer to WhatsApp, in a bid to strengthen local digital ecosystems.

Vembu’s call adds new momentum to India’s ongoing dialogue about nurturing homegrown talent and reversing decades of outward migration.
