Grenada has unveiled a new initiative aimed at strengthening economic ties with Nigeria by introducing visa-free access for Nigerian citizens and promoting investment opportunities across key sectors of its economy.
Speaking in Lagos after a recent visit to the Caribbean nation, Bidemi Sonoiki said Grenada is positioning itself as a gateway for Nigerian businesses seeking expansion into Caribbean markets.
According to him, the visa-free policy, expected to take effect in July, is designed to make travel easier for Nigerian entrepreneurs, investors, professionals and students interested in exploring opportunities in the Caribbean nation. He noted that the move would encourage stronger commercial, educational and cultural exchanges between both countries.
Sonoiki also disclosed that discussions are ongoing to establish direct flights between Nigeria and Grenada within the next six months. He said improved air connectivity would boost trade, tourism and investment by making movement between West Africa and the Caribbean more convenient.
The consul highlighted several sectors where Nigerian investors can participate, including tourism, healthcare, agriculture, agro-processing, logistics, education, financial technology, renewable energy and real estate. He described Grenada as a stable and business-friendly destination offering long-term growth prospects.
He explained that relations between both countries have expanded significantly since the establishment of Grenada’s honorary consulate in Lagos in 2022. This has led to increased diplomatic engagement, stronger private-sector collaboration and the creation of the Nigeria-Grenada Chamber of Commerce.
Grenada, widely known as the “Spice Isle” for its production of nutmeg and mace, has diversified its economy through tourism, education, financial services and other emerging industries. As a member of the Caribbean Community, the country also provides access to a broader regional market.
Sonoiki expressed confidence that growing cooperation between Africa and the Caribbean would create fresh opportunities for Nigerian businesses and investors seeking international expansion, adding that both countries are working toward building stronger economic partnerships that deliver long-term benefits.
