The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Lagos State Chapter, has pledged to reduce poultry prices following the launch of Phase 2 of the Lagos State Government’s “Ounje Eko” farmers’ subsidy programme.

PAN Vice President and Chairman of the Aiyedoto Poultry Farmers Settlement, Mr. Foluso Adams, made the announcement on Monday in Lagos, explaining that the subsidy would lower production costs for local farmers and ultimately reduce prices of poultry products for consumers.

The Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems recently unveiled Phase II of the Ounje Eko programme, aimed at curbing food costs and ensuring affordability ahead of the yuletide season.

Adams said the initiative would help stabilize the price of poultry produce during the festive period, providing relief to families across the state while supporting the livelihoods of small-scale farmers.

He added that the subsidy would apply specifically to farmers using the Animal Care brand of feed, noting that about 50 farmers from the Aiyedoto settlement are expected to benefit from the programme once materials arrive later in the week.

“The Ounje Eko Farmers’ Subsidy Programme will certainly help lower the price of poultry produce during the yuletide. We expect the price of a crate of eggs to fall from N5,500–N6,000 to approximately N5,100–N5,300,” Adams said.
“Thanks to the subsidy, poultry farmers have agreed to reduce prices. We are also encouraging members using other feed brands to take advantage of this opportunity and pass on the benefits to consumers,” he added.

Adams further predicted that the price of chicken would also decline during the yuletide, and suggested that if other states adopted Lagos State’s approach, poultry prices nationwide could fall significantly, ensuring more affordable festive meals for families.
