The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) recently hosted a delegation from the V-Care Foundation to discuss a strategic partnership focused on health and economic empowerment. The Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, welcomed the team led by Miss Mimansa Shukla, commending the NGO for its impactful work. Hon. Dada encouraged the foundation to leverage the Ministry’s 19 Skills Acquisition Centres spread across the five divisions of Lagos to scale up their interventions for the year.

During the visit, the Commissioner outlined the Ministry’s extensive empowerment agenda for 2026, which targets women, youth, and rural communities. The programmes include intensive short-term vocational training, the Micro Enterprise Support Programme (MESI), and dedicated assistance for widows. Graduates from state acquisition centres are also provided with essential start-up kits and equipment to ensure they can transition immediately into self-employment and sustainable livelihoods.

The Ministry’s reach extends deep into the agricultural sector, offering specialized training in fish farming, palm oil processing, and vegetable cultivation. Hon. Dada highlighted the Ministry’s demonstration farm in Avia, Badagry, where beneficiaries receive hands-on experience and are encouraged to form cooperative societies. Furthermore, the Ministry provides critical economic and psychosocial support to survivors of domestic violence, ensuring they gain financial independence alongside mental health counseling.

Miss Mimansa Shukla, Head of V-Care Foundation, expressed a strong desire to establish a long-term collaboration with WAPA to build on previous successes. She recalled earlier joint efforts where students across four acquisition centres were trained in entrepreneurship and the development of professional business plans. The foundation aims to sustain this momentum by integrating their health-focused initiatives with the Ministry’s established socio-economic frameworks.

Expanding on future plans, V-Care’s Partnership Manager, Mr. Muyiwa Bolarinwa, revealed that the foundation intends to increase its presence across more state centres throughout 2026. He specifically noted interest in the Ministry’s upcoming digital marketing training and Adire production projects. By aligning their resources with WAPA’s priorities, the foundation seeks to reinforce Lagos State’s position as a leader in vocational excellence and poverty reduction.
