The United States government has issued a security alert warning its citizens in Nigeria about a possible terrorist threat targeting American diplomatic facilities and institutions connected to the U.S.
In a notice released on Monday, the United States Embassy in Nigeria said the advisory was intended to inform American nationals of potential security risks around U.S. government locations and affiliated schools in the country.
According to the alert, Americans visiting the United States Embassy in Abuja and the U.S. Consulate General Lagos have been advised to exercise heightened caution.
The embassy recommended that citizens vary their travel routes and schedules, avoid predictable routines, and remain vigilant when moving around areas connected to U.S. facilities. It also urged individuals to keep their mobile phones fully charged and maintain awareness of their surroundings in public places.
Additional safety advice included avoiding large gatherings or demonstrations and becoming familiar with emergency exits when entering public buildings.
While the embassy acknowledged the potential threat, officials did not disclose the source or details of the security concern.
The warning comes at a time of heightened global tensions following military confrontations involving the United States and Iran, which have raised security concerns in several regions.
Recent demonstrations in parts of Nigeria have also drawn attention to international developments in the Middle East, adding to concerns about possible spillover security risks.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, while urging American citizens in Nigeria to remain alert and follow official security guidance.
