US Mission in Nigeria Pauses Social Media Updates as Funding Gap Persists, Visa Services Unaffected

The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced a temporary pause in routine updates on its official social media platform, citing a lapse in U.S. government funding, while confirming that passport and visa services will continue for now.

In a notice issued via its verified X account, the Mission explained that the interruption affects regular communication only and does not signal a shutdown of consular operations. It said updates would be limited strictly to urgent safety and security information until full government operations are restored.

Despite the funding setback, the Mission reassured applicants that scheduled passport and visa appointments in the United States and at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide, including Nigeria, are still ongoing, subject to operational conditions as the situation evolves.

Officials noted that no additional public advisories would be issued during the funding lapse unless they relate to critical safety concerns. Routine announcements and service updates will resume once normal operations are fully reinstated.

Members of the public seeking current information on visa, passport, or travel-related services were advised to rely on official U.S. government travel platforms for guidance during the interim period.
