The United States has rolled out a special visa appointment system aimed at easing travel for fans planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The initiative allows individuals who already hold match tickets to book expedited visa interview slots ahead of the tournament’s kickoff in June.

The priority arrangement is designed to reduce long waiting times at US embassies and consulates as demand for travel documentation surges ahead of the competition. Officials say the system will help ensure that genuine football fans can complete visa processing early enough to make travel plans without uncertainty.

The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, running from June 11 to July 19. The US will host the majority of matches, including the final, spread across multiple cities nationwide.

US authorities have said the new appointment system is part of broader preparations to manage the expected influx of millions of international visitors. Security agencies are also involved to ensure that applicants are properly screened in line with immigration laws and border security requirements.

While the priority appointment offers faster access to interviews, it does not guarantee visa approval. Applicants must still meet all eligibility criteria and satisfy consular officers that they intend to comply with visa conditions, including leaving the country after the tournament.

The system was also introduced to address concerns that applicants from some qualifying countries might not secure interview dates in time under normal scheduling timelines. Officials estimate that in most countries, applicants using the priority option can now secure appointments within weeks rather than months.

Travelers from countries covered by the US Visa Waiver Programme will not need to use the new system, as they can enter the United States for short stays without a visa, provided they obtain the required electronic travel authorization.

Authorities have advised prospective visitors to apply early, confirm ticket ownership before booking appointments, and stay informed about entry requirements as the tournament approaches.
