A Nigerian medical doctor based in the United States, Dr Monisade Adeyemo, has donated medical equipment valued at several millions of naira to the Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.
Dr Adeyemo, a family medicine specialist and proprietor of Lakewood Family Clinic in Maryland, said the donation was a personal decision to give back to an institution she described as exceptional in delivering critical and life-saving healthcare.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, she recounted her own experience as a patient at the hospital after suffering a major stroke. According to her, the professionalism and compassion shown by the hospital’s medical team played a decisive role in her recovery.
She explained that her gesture was motivated by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the improvement of healthcare delivery in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large, rather than waiting for what the country could offer her.
Dr Adeyemo also called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to support credible medical institutions, stressing that partnerships and philanthropy are crucial to strengthening the nation’s health system.
Receiving the equipment, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr Akinola Akinmade, expressed appreciation for the donation, describing it as timely and encouraging. He noted that the hospital is equipped to handle a wide range of complex medical cases and recently recorded its 44th kidney transplant.
Dr Akinmade added that the hospital has continued to uphold the vision of its founder, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), earning recognition as one of the most advanced healthcare facilities in Sub-Saharan Africa.
