The Ogun State Government has reiterated its drive to attract diaspora investors into key sectors of the economy, particularly tourism and hospitality, as part of efforts to strengthen economic development and create more business opportunities across the state.

This position was highlighted during the commissioning of Treal Hotel and Suites in the Ibara Housing Estate area of Abeokuta. Representing Governor Dapo Abiodun at the event, Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, described Ogun as one of Nigeria’s most attractive investment destinations due to its strategic location and expanding commercial activities.

Talabi said the state’s closeness to Lagos, combined with its cultural heritage and growing tourism potential, provides strong advantages for investors seeking opportunities in leisure and hospitality businesses. He praised the Chairman of the hotel, Adebayo Fagbenro, for returning from abroad to establish a major investment in his home state after spending many years overseas.

According to him, the Ogun State Government remains committed to supporting investors by maintaining policies that encourage business growth, especially for Nigerians in the diaspora bringing international experience and financial resources back home.

Founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, also urged stronger partnerships between Nigerians living abroad and citizens at home to promote national development. He stated that many Nigerians overseas continue to excel globally and should be encouraged to invest their knowledge and resources in projects capable of transforming the country’s economy and image.

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, commended the investment, noting that projects of this nature contribute significantly to the economic and infrastructural growth of Abeokuta. He added that the city has continued to witness increased private-sector participation and development.

Speaking during the inauguration, Adebayo Fagbenro explained that the hotel was established to combine luxury accommodation with wellness-focused services, stressing that wellness tourism has become a rapidly expanding sector worldwide. He said his exposure to hospitality systems abroad motivated him to improve standards within the local industry.

Fagbenro disclosed that the facility features modern amenities including internet-enabled rooms, fitness facilities, swimming areas, and relaxation services designed to meet international standards. He added that research conducted before the project began showed increasing opportunities driven by rising tourism and business activities in Ogun State.

His wife, Adejoke Fagbenro, said the vision behind the project is to build a hospitality brand capable of competing globally through consistency and quality service delivery.

The hotel’s General Manager, Nuhu Onoja, expressed optimism that the facility would become one of the leading hospitality destinations in the state due to its professional standards and customer-focused services.

Several dignitaries attended the inauguration, including government officials, traditional rulers, and political leaders from within and outside Ogun State.
