Nigerian Embassy Makes Diaspora Registration Mandatory for Consular Services in Philippines, Cambodia

The Nigerian Embassy in Manila has introduced a new requirement that makes registration with recognised Nigerian community bodies a condition for accessing consular services in the Philippines and Cambodia.

The directive, announced in a notice issued by the embassy, affects Nigerians residing in both countries, including students. Under the new arrangement, individuals seeking passport-related services, documentation, or other consular assistance must first provide evidence that they are registered with the appropriate Nigerian diaspora organisation.

The embassy noted that diaspora organisations play a key role in assisting Nigerians facing financial hardship or other challenges, adding that membership contributions help fund such interventions.

As part of the policy, Nigerians who fail to present proof of registration may be denied access to embassy facilities for consular-related matters. The restriction will also apply to Nigerian students living in the Philippines.

Authorities encouraged affected citizens to complete their registration with the relevant diaspora bodies without delay, stressing that proper documentation would improve communication, accountability, and support services for Nigerians in both countries.

The announcement comes amid heightened immigration concerns in Cambodia, where foreign nationals have recently been urged to regularise their residency status or leave the country in line with immigration regulations.
