A woman returning from the United Kingdom to attend a wedding in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has lost her life in a tragic road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Monday when the white Toyota Camry she was traveling in collided with a moving truck. Two other passengers, a man and a woman, suffered injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency confirmed that excessive speed was a key factor in the crash. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle struck the truck at a section near Christopher University.
Preliminary reports indicate that both female passengers had recently returned from the UK specifically for the wedding in Abeokuta. The deceased’s body has been deposited at the Redeemed Hospital morgue, while the injured are receiving medical care at Famobis and Redeemed Hospitals.
Traffic officials have reiterated warnings against speeding, highlighting the recurring danger along this stretch of the expressway. This incident follows a similar crash involving prominent individuals in the same area earlier this year.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly during long-distance travel.
Authorities continue investigations to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision.
