A Nigerian national living in the United Kingdom, Adedapo Adegbola, has pleaded guilty to the murder of his former British partner, Steph Irons, following a fatal stabbing at her home in Nottingham. The admission was entered on Monday at the Nottingham Crown Court.
Court proceedings revealed that Adegbola, 40, and Irons were colleagues whose working relationship later became romantic. After the relationship ended, Adegbola visited Irons’ residence on Westdale Lane West, Mapperley, on October 21, 2025, where the incident occurred.
Investigators told the court that Adegbola did not seek medical help after the attack and left the scene. Evidence later linked him to the crime through blood-stained footwear, surveillance footage, and digital records. Irons was found in her living room later that evening and was pronounced dead by paramedics.
Although Adegbola later presented himself at a police station, he declined to answer questions during interviews. Detectives said the volume and strength of evidence assembled left little room for dispute, leading to his guilty plea.
Steph Irons was described as an accomplished clinical psychologist with postgraduate qualifications and plans to pursue a doctorate. Police expressed condolences to her family, noting that the court outcome may bring some measure of closure.
Adegbola’s sentencing has been scheduled for February 5.
