United Kingdom-based Nigerian blogger, Maureen Badejo, has been released from custody after meeting the bail conditions set by a Lagos court
Badejo was arrested on February 6 in Lagos by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force’s Criminal Investigation Department. Her arrest reportedly followed petitions submitted by the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleiman, and the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Dr. Daniel Olukoya.
She was subsequently arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court, which granted her bail in the sum of ₦10 million with one surety. Her legal team secured her release after fulfilling the conditions.
The arraignment was said to have been marked by confusion over the court venue, as her lawyers were reportedly directed to a different court location while proceedings took place elsewhere. Despite the mix-up, the court proceeded and admitted her to bail.
Although authorities have not publicly detailed the charges, the case is believed to be linked to her online publications and social media activities.
The matter also connects to earlier legal disputes abroad. In 2022, a UK court ordered Apostle Suleiman to pay costs in a defamation case involving Badejo. Supporters within the diaspora community are reported to have contributed to her legal defence.
