Ugandan authorities have arrested 231 foreign nationals, among them 62 Nigerians, in a sweeping operation targeting irregular migration and suspected illicit activities across parts of the country.

The arrests were carried out on April 27, 2026, during coordinated, intelligence-led raids in Adjumani District and the Bukoto–Ntinda area of Kampala. Officials said the operation followed actionable information provided by members of the public.

Government sources disclosed that several of the Nigerian suspects were allegedly engaged in religious and commercial activities without valid work permits, raising concerns about compliance with immigration regulations.

The detainees are currently being held at a government facility in Namanve, where they are undergoing legal processing. Authorities say outcomes may include deportation, fines, or restrictions on future entry into the country.

Preliminary investigations suggest differing accounts among those arrested. While some individuals claim they were misled with false job opportunities, others are being probed for alleged involvement in online fraud and related offences.

In a separate operation within Kampala, security operatives arrested 169 additional foreign nationals, including 36 women, from a residential apartment in Bukoto over lack of valid immigration documentation.

The group is reported to include nationals from multiple countries across Asia and Africa, highlighting the broader scope of the enforcement exercise beyond a single nationality.

Officials have reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to upholding immigration laws and maintaining national security, while also urging landlords to verify the legal status of foreign tenants before offering accommodation.
