A diaspora organisation based in the United States has provided psychosocial support to victims affected by recent violence in Plateau State, offering a structured space for emotional recovery.

The initiative, organised by the Plateau Association in the U.S., focused on survivors of the March 29 attack in Angwan Rukuba, a community in Jos North Local Government Area, where several residents were killed and others sustained injuries.

According to organisers, the intervention was designed to address the often-overlooked psychological impact of such attacks, particularly among women and children who bear the brunt of the aftermath.

Speaking during the session, the association’s leadership emphasised the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment where victims could openly express their emotions and begin the healing process.

They noted that beyond physical losses, many survivors struggle with deep emotional trauma, which, if left unaddressed, can have long-term consequences on individuals and communities.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with a social development organisation, which facilitated counselling sessions and guided discussions tailored to help participants process grief and rebuild resilience.

Organisers disclosed that dozens of survivors, including individuals who lost family members, took part in the exercise, which they described as a critical first step toward recovery.

They also called on government authorities and security agencies to intensify efforts to curb recurring violence in Plateau State, stressing that sustained peace remains essential for both development and community stability.
