Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary-General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), has emphasized the pivotal role of diaspora communities in fostering cultural and economic ties among Turkic nations. Speaking at a reception hosted by the Azerbaijani Embassy to the United States for the Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis Worldwide, Omuraliev described diaspora populations as “natural bridges” linking societies and promoting shared identity.

He noted that the OTS is actively strengthening diaspora coordination through dialogue platforms, cultural initiatives, and joint projects across member states, including Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. The organization has also launched a Diaspora Capacity-Building Training Program, with plans to hold its next session in the U.S. in 2026.

Omuraliev praised Azerbaijan’s leadership within the OTS, highlighting the country’s role in advancing regional cooperation and fostering practical partnerships across political, economic, and cultural spheres.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the U.S., Khazar Ibrahim, echoed the call for solidarity, expressing hope for broader participation from Turkic diaspora communities globally.

Earlier, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan outlined Türkiye’s vision for the Turkic world, targeting $60 billion in medium-term trade with member states and $100 billion in the long term. He emphasized integrating energy corridors, logistics, and digital infrastructure while promoting shared language, culture, and youth exchange programs.

Erdogan also underscored security cooperation among Turkic states, noting collective efforts to counter terrorism as a pillar of regional unity.

This month, UNESCO recognized December 15 as World Turkic Language Family Day, reinforcing the cultural and linguistic bonds shared across Turkic-speaking nations.

The OTS, formerly known as the Turkic Council, continues to serve as a platform for enhancing political, economic, and cultural collaboration, with Hungary, Turkmenistan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus holding observer status.
