The National Sports Commission (NSC) has named Tunde Adelakun as the Chairman of its newly established Diaspora Talents Discovery Committee, a body created to identify and engage Nigerian athletes living abroad.
The appointment was confirmed by NSC Director General Bukola Olopade, who highlighted Adelakun’s extensive experience in sports management and his deep connections within the global Nigerian sporting community.
According to Olopade, the committee will be central to the commission’s efforts to strengthen the ‘Renewed Hope Initiative,’ a program designed to advance Nigeria’s performance on the international sporting stage.
“The goal is to tap into the wealth of talent among Nigerians in the diaspora and provide a clear pathway for them to represent the country,” Olopade explained, adding that the commission is committed to ensuring a structured and supportive system for these athletes.
Adelakun, speaking on his appointment, described the committee as a transformative step for Nigerian sports. He stressed that leveraging international best practices is essential for achieving consistent success at global competitions.
He also highlighted the importance of creating a welcoming environment for diaspora athletes, noting that many are eager to contribute to Nigeria’s sporting ambitions if given the right support and guidance.
The committee’s work will include scouting, mentoring, and integrating diaspora athletes into national teams while collaborating with domestic programs to ensure seamless coordination between homegrown and international talent.
With Adelakun at the helm, the NSC aims to build stronger links with the global Nigerian sports community and maximize available talent, ensuring that the country continues to excel on the international stage.
