Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has paid a working visit to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Headquarters in Abuja, underscoring the Federal Government’s renewed focus on engaging its diaspora community as a key driver of national development.

During the meeting, Tuggar was received by the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON, alongside senior members of the Commission’s leadership. Discussions centered on enhancing collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NiDCOM to address diaspora concerns, improve service delivery at Nigerian missions abroad, and promote positive national image-building.

The Minister reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 4D Foreign Policy Doctrine – Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora – describing it as a strategic framework to leverage Nigeria’s human capital, both at home and abroad, for diplomatic and economic advancement. He stressed that the diaspora remains a critical partner in advancing Nigeria’s interests globally.

Ambassador Tuggar also acknowledged the significant contribution of Nigerians abroad, noting that remittances surpassed $20 billion in 2024. He urged diaspora communities to remain united, counter misinformation, and project a positive image of Nigeria in their host countries.

Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa welcomed the Minister’s visit, describing it as a morale booster for NiDCOM’s mandate. She pledged the Commission’s readiness to intensify diaspora engagement, strengthen investment linkages, and foster collaboration with Nigerian missions to resolve service challenges faced by citizens abroad.

The meeting concluded with both parties committing to sustained dialogue, coordinated action, and strategic diaspora inclusion in Nigeria’s developmental agenda.
