A new era of energy collaboration is beginning in Lagos as Transgrid Enerco Limited, formerly known as Eko Disco, reached out to state authorities this week. The company's new management team paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to discuss ways to strengthen the power grid. The focus of the meeting was clear: achieving a reliable, sustainable, and transparent electricity supply for all residents.

Honourable Commissioner Biodun Ogunleye welcomed the delegation, stating that "Energy for All Lagosians" is a non-negotiable goal of the current administration. He emphasized that 100 percent metering is a critical priority to ensure transparency and protect consumers from unfair billing. According to the Commissioner, the era of opaque practices in the power sector is coming to an end.

The discussions were guided by the state’s Integrated Resources Plan, a roadmap designed to ensure long-term energy security. Commissioner Ogunleye stressed that all interventions must align with the Governor’s "THEMES Plus" agenda, focusing on infrastructure that drives economic growth. He called for a total change in mindset from all stakeholders to move the state away from a culture of darkness.

Transgrid Enerco’s Chairman, Mr. Olubunmi Peters, reaffirmed his company’s readiness to invest in the state’s vision. He noted that the company is looking for strategic partnerships to enhance network capacity and accelerate the deployment of meters. The delegation expressed a strong desire to support the state’s ambition of becoming a globally competitive megacity with a 24/7 power supply.

The meeting concluded with both parties committing to a deeper, more collaborative relationship. By working together, the state government and the private sector hope to solve the perennial challenges of the electricity value chain. For Lagosians, this partnership promises a more accountable and efficient energy sector in the years to come.
