The United Kingdom has released the official schedule for the upcoming state visit of Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which will take place from March 17 to 19.

The visit will include ceremonial events and diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening relations between Nigeria and the UK. The Nigerian leader is expected to arrive on March 18 and will be formally received by Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales before proceeding to Windsor Castle

At the castle, Tinubu will be welcomed by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, where a ceremonial reception, guard of honour and state luncheon will be held.

Talks during the visit are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, migration management, security and port development. Cultural events highlighting Nigerian heritage will also form part of the programme.

On March 19, Tinubu will hold a private meeting with the British monarch before travelling to London. He is scheduled to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in Westminster in tribute to fallen soldiers.

Later that day, he will meet the UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, at Downing Street for bilateral discussions and a working lunch.

The Nigerian president will also interact with members of the Nigerian diaspora community and oversee the signing of agreements aimed at strengthening economic and diplomatic cooperation.

The trip, which will conclude with Tinubu’s departure from RAF Northolt, represents Nigeria’s first full state visit to the UK in nearly six decades and is expected to reinforce ties between the two countries.
