President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the significant role of Nigerian-trained doctors in the United Kingdom’s healthcare system, noting their strong presence within the National Health Service (NHS).

Speaking during a state banquet at Windsor Castle hosted by King Charles III, Tinubu said Nigerian medical professionals rank among the largest groups of international workers supporting the NHS. He described their contribution as vital to healthcare delivery across the UK.

The president also underscored the broader impact of Nigerians living in Britain, describing the diaspora community as dynamic and influential across various sectors, including healthcare, sports, and business.

Tinubu pointed to prominent athletes of Nigerian heritage such as Bukayo Saka, Maro Itoje, Eberechi Eze, and Anthony Joshua as examples of the deep human ties connecting both nations.

Reflecting on historical relations, he noted that Nigeria and the United Kingdom share longstanding institutional and cultural links, particularly in governance, law, and public administration, which continue to shape Nigeria’s development.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, emphasizing shared values, mutual respect, and continued cooperation between both countries.

Tinubu also acknowledged the UK’s past support for Nigeria during periods of military rule, recalling his personal experience of receiving protection while in exile.

The president concluded by expressing optimism about the future of Nigeria-UK relations, calling for sustained partnership in areas of mutual interest, including security, development, and global engagement.
