Second Group of Evacuated Nigerians Returns from South Africa

A second batch of Nigerians affected by recent anti-foreigner violence in South Africa has arrived in Lagos as the Federal Government continues its evacuation programme for citizens seeking to return home.
The latest group, comprising 66 returnees, landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Wednesday night. Their arrival follows the earlier return of 258 Nigerians who were brought back to the country earlier this month.
Officials involved in the exercise said the latest flight was supported through a partnership involving private sector stakeholders and Nigerian diplomatic representatives in South Africa, who accompanied the returnees throughout the journey.
Representatives of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) welcomed the evacuees on arrival and commended the Federal Government for responding to the concerns of Nigerians affected by the unrest. They also noted that lessons from the first phase of the operation had helped improve the ongoing evacuation process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured that arrangements are being made to accommodate additional Nigerians who have indicated interest in returning home.
To support their reintegration, several organisations and individuals announced relief packages for the returnees. Assistance includes financial support, communication services, and other welfare provisions aimed at helping them settle back into life in Nigeria.
Government agencies, including immigration, emergency management, and refugee support officials, were present at the airport to receive and process the arriving passengers.
Many of the evacuees expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, diplomatic officials, and private sector partners for facilitating their safe return from South Africa amid the ongoing tensions.
