Sanwo-Olu Unveils New Blue Line Trains, Appreciates Tinubu’s Support for Lagos Rail Expansion

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled three new train sets for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, doubling the system’s current passenger capacity and reinforcing his administration’s commitment to modern, efficient public transportation in Lagos.


The new trains, each comprising four cars, were launched at the National Theatre Station. With their addition, the Blue Line will now operate with increased frequency trains are expected to arrive every 10 minutes—reducing wait times and significantly improving the daily commute for thousands of Lagosians.


Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government, crediting their backing as crucial to the success of the procurement and delivery process.


“I’m deeply grateful to President Tinubu and the Federal Government for their strong support,” Sanwo-Olu said. “This would not have been possible without their backing.”

He also announced that new trains for the LRMT Red Line designed to carry twice the capacity of the Blue Line trains are expected to arrive before the end of the year. Meanwhile, construction on Phase 2 of the Blue Line, which will extend service from Mile 2 tThis isn’t just about rolling out trains it’s about building a modern future for urban mobility in Lagos,” Sanwo-Olu said. “And we are just getting started.”
