Sanwo-Olu Swears In Obasa’s Son as Substantive Chairman of Agege LG

The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sworn in Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, son of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudasiru Obasa, as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area of the state.
Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, who had been serving in an acting capacity, was sworn in on Monday, officially assuming full responsibility for the administration and leadership of the local council
His emergence followed the resignation of the former Chairman, Mr Tunde Azeez, who had been on medical leave since the inauguration of the new local council administration in Lagos State.
The resignation letter of the former chairman was read by the Leader of the House, Hon Adeshina Haruna, who disclosed that Azeez stepped aside due to persistent health challenges that had significantly affected his ability to discharge his official duties.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the newly sworn-in chairman to prioritise community development, inclusive leadership, and accountability, while aligning his administration with the broader vision of the state government.
“Today’s ceremony is solemn, but it is also a moment to reinforce trust and responsibility. Governance is strengthened when capable people are entrusted with leadership and when public office is approached as a platform for service rather than privilege,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“Local government is where governance is felt the most. Leadership must be visible, responsive, and compassionate. Your task is to deepen community development, promote social cohesion, and deliver governance fairly, transparently, and equitably to the people of Agege,” the governor added.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mr Kayode Robert, noted that Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa had been effectively managing the affairs of Agege Local Government in an acting capacity following the former chairman’s medical leave, describing his swearing-in as a renewed call to service, dedication, and selflessness to the people of the council.
