Russia has evacuated more than 100 women and children from its embassy in Tehran as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
The evacuation took place between March 3 and March 4, according to officials from the Russian diplomatic mission in Iran. In a statement shared on social media, the embassy confirmed that families of diplomatic staff were transported out of the country and returned safely to Russia.
Russian authorities said the decision was taken as a precautionary measure due to the security situation in the region, which has been affected by ongoing conflict and military activity.
Despite the evacuation, the embassy clarified that its essential diplomatic personnel remain stationed in Tehran and continue to carry out their duties.
Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko also confirmed the move, noting that only non-essential personnel were relocated while the embassy’s core staff continues to operate in Iran.
The evacuation highlights growing concerns among foreign governments over the potential expansion of hostilities in the Middle East. Several countries have reportedly been reviewing security arrangements for their diplomatic missions and citizens in the region as tensions persist.
