The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) kicked off its 2026 administrative year with a call for renewed dedication and excellence. During the first management meeting of the year, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Rafiu Olawale Ojikutu, charged the staff to rededicate themselves to the Commission’s core mandates. He emphasized that the success of the teaching service depends heavily on the collective effort and professionalism of its administrative backbone.

Mr. Ojikutu specifically sought the cooperation of Heads of Departments and Units, urging them to foster a spirit of unity within their teams. He noted that collaboration is the only way to achieve the ambitious regulatory goals set for the year. The Permanent Secretary highlighted that a cohesive workforce is better equipped to handle the challenges of managing the state’s extensive teaching personnel and educational standards.

To further refine their operations, the Permanent Secretary announced an upcoming management retreat designed to align the Commission’s business processes with its regulatory framework. This retreat will serve as a platform for senior staff to brainstorm on ways to modernize their workflow. The focus will be on efficiency, ensuring that the Commission can respond swiftly to the needs of teachers and schools across Lagos.

In addition to professional goals, the meeting touched upon the importance of the work environment. Mr. Ojikutu reiterated the need for staff to "work smart" and maintain a workplace that is conducive, productive, and free of unnecessary friction. He stressed that a positive office culture directly impacts the quality of service delivered to the public and the teaching community.

The meeting concluded with a review of the Commission’s vision and mission statements to ensure all departments are moving in the same direction. By setting a high bar for service delivery early in the year, TESCOM aims to maintain its position as a leading agency in the Lagos State civil service. The management expressed confidence that with renewed commitment, 2026 will be a landmark year for the Commission.
