President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians living abroad to increase their investments in the country, urging them to take advantage of ongoing economic reforms and contribute capital, skills and technology to Nigeria’s development.

President Tinubu made the call at the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS), an annual hybrid event organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and the Nigeria Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI).

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the President said Nigeria was seeking to move beyond dependence on diaspora remittances by encouraging long-term investments that could support local businesses and create sustainable economic opportunities.

He said the summit provided an avenue to connect Nigerian investors abroad and diaspora capital with entrepreneurs, startups and government leaders in Nigeria.

According to him, the collaboration was expected to strengthen investment, promote indigenous businesses and accelerate economic growth.

Tinubu also encouraged Nigerians in the diaspora to see Nigeria as a priority investment destination, particularly as the government continues to implement economic reforms aimed at improving the business environment.

Speaking at the summit, NiDCOM Director-General, Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the event was focused on building stronger partnerships and unlocking funding for sectors with significant growth potential.

She identified fintech, agriculture and energy among the sectors receiving particular attention, stressing that increased collaboration between Nigerians abroad and businesses at home could open up new opportunities and contribute to national development.

A major highlight of the summit was the presentation of the Diaspora Community Impact and Infrastructural Development Award to HELLO Energy, a Nigeria-based company.
