NIS Deploys Passport Team to UK Over Growing Application Backlog
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has sent a team of passport officials to the United Kingdom to address a backlog of passport applications and assist Nigerians experiencing delays with their documents.
The intervention was ordered by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, with the officials expected to commence the exercise in the UK from Monday.
According to the NIS, the team will handle a range of passport-related matters, including new applications, renewals and other outstanding requests that have yet to be processed.
The exercise will not be limited to Nigerians with existing applications. First-time applicants will also be able to access the service, while current passport holders with less than 12 months remaining on their documents can begin the renewal process.
Officials are expected to visit selected cities across the UK as part of the intervention, allowing Nigerians living in different locations to complete passport enrolment and processing without necessarily travelling to a single centre.
The Immigration Service said details of the cities and enrolment schedules would be announced as arrangements are finalised.
Nigerians seeking clarification or wishing to report passport-related complaints have also been advised to contact the NIS through passport.london@immigration.gov.ng.
The deployment comes as the authorities seek to tackle outstanding passport applications and improve access to consular-related passport services for Nigerians living in the United Kingdom.
