President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of 65 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners to represent Nigeria in various countries and multilateral organisations worldwide.
The list includes a combination of 34 political appointees and 31 career diplomats from the foreign service. The appointments were confirmed in a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, who explained that the envoys would serve in strategic diplomatic missions across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.
Among the political appointees, former aviation minister Femi Fani‑Kayode has been posted to Germany, while presidential aide Reno Omokri will represent Nigeria in Mexico. Former interior minister Abdulrahman Dambazau is assigned to China, and businessman-turned-politician Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the United Nations.
Other notable placements include former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, ex-health minister Isaac Adewole to Canada, and former presidential adviser Ita Enang to South Africa. Retired intelligence chief Ayodele Oke is slated for France, while Aminu Dalhatu will serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
Additional postings include former Enugu governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to Greece, Senator Grace Bent to Togo, and former Lagos deputy governor Olufemi Pedro to Australia. Other envoys will represent Nigeria in countries such as Japan, Poland, Hungary, Portugal, Russia and Argentina.
The list also features several career diplomats assigned to major diplomatic missions. Among them are Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, Ambassador Shehu Barde to Ghana, Ambassador Aminu Nasir to Ethiopia, and Ambassador Ayeni Adebayo to Belgium.
According to the presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured diplomatic consent from the United Kingdom for Dalhatu’s appointment and from France for Oke’s posting. Requests for similar approvals have been sent to the remaining host countries in line with international diplomatic procedures.
President Tinubu has also instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organise orientation and induction programmes for the ambassadors-designate ahead of their deployment.
The Senate confirmed all nominees in December 2025 after screening them through its Committee on Foreign Affairs. Once diplomatic approvals are completed, the envoys are expected to take up their assignments and strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence across global missions.
