Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted with enthusiasm by members of the Indian diaspora as he arrived in Amman, marking the start of the Jordan leg of his three-nation overseas tour. The reception at his hotel highlighted the strong presence and influence of Indian communities abroad.
The four-day tour includes visits to Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman, aimed at deepening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties. In Jordan, PM Modi is scheduled to meet King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, with discussions expected to focus on bilateral trade, investment, and regional cooperation.
The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of India-Jordan diplomatic relations, adding historical significance. Officials noted that the timing provides an opportunity to celebrate decades of partnership while setting the stage for enhanced cooperation in technology, energy, and education sectors.
PM Modi also plans to meet the Indian diaspora in Jordan, acknowledging their contributions to strengthening India’s global relationships. The community’s active participation in business, education, and cultural initiatives was praised as a key factor in fostering goodwill between nations.
Following Jordan, the Prime Minister will travel to Ethiopia, where he is expected to address a joint parliamentary session and meet Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali. Discussions will focus on expanding trade, strengthening democratic institutions, and promoting collaboration for the Global South.
The final leg of the tour will be Oman, marking PM Modi’s second visit to the country. Meetings with Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and engagements with the Indian diaspora are expected to reinforce the India-Oman Strategic Partnership, with a particular emphasis on trade and economic growth.
Observers say the visits underscore India’s commitment to its citizens abroad, positioning the diaspora as a bridge for international diplomacy. Engaging with communities overseas is seen as a key strategy to advance India’s global influence while celebrating cultural ties.
The warm reception in Amman reflects the growing visibility and impact of Indian communities around the world. Analysts note that diaspora engagement not only strengthens bilateral relations but also highlights the role of expatriate communities in shaping global perceptions of India.
