A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem, has urged indigenes living abroad to play a more active role in shaping the state’s future, stressing the need for their expertise, investment, and political engagement.

He made this appeal during a keynote address at the 10th anniversary of the Ibadan Progressive Association Australia, where discussions focused on advancing Oyo State’s development through global collaboration.

Kareem explained that his entry into the 2027 governorship race is driven by a carefully structured plan rather than personal ambition. He noted that his campaign is grounded in research and policy proposals aimed at delivering measurable progress.

According to him, leadership should be based on preparation and competence, adding that he has consistently released policy documents outlining his plans for the state.

He identified education, healthcare, and economic growth as the key pillars of his agenda. On education, he proposed reforms that would prioritise functional learning and equip young people with skills relevant to a global economy, including a fully funded basic education system.

In the health sector, Kareem advocated a decentralised and technology-driven primary healthcare system designed to ensure that residents can access quality medical services within a short distance.

Addressing economic development, he proposed a structured credit system for small-scale traders and artisans, aimed at replacing irregular empowerment programmes with sustainable financial support mechanisms.

He also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s leadership landscape, noting that professionals returning from abroad are bringing valuable global experience that could improve governance standards.

Kareem encouraged diaspora indigenes to move beyond observation and actively contribute to Oyo State’s political and economic transformation, stating that their involvement is essential to building a more competitive and globally relevant state by 2027.
