The maiden edition of the Oniru Business and Cultural Day has reinforced Lagos’ commitment to blending commerce and culture as tools for inclusive growth. The event, held at the Oba Oniru Palace in Victoria Island, attracted government officials, business leaders, and community stakeholders.

Representing the Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, reaffirmed the state’s support for initiatives that strengthen economic collaboration and cultural diplomacy. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, also attended alongside other dignitaries.
The initiative aims to boost business confidence by connecting indigenous and expatriate enterprises, showcasing products and services, and fostering strategic networking. Organisers highlighted its role in promoting investment, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the Iru Kingdom and beyond.
Beyond commerce, the event featured vibrant cultural performances and sector-focused dialogues addressing finance, tourism, digital innovation, and youth employment. These engagements sought to deepen community ties while identifying practical solutions to shared economic challenges.

A key outcome of the gathering was the establishment of the Iru Business Network, which will maintain a business registry and facilitate ongoing engagement between government and private sector players. The initiative aligns with the broader vision of positioning Lagos as a hub for commerce, culture, and innovation in Africa.
