Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has insisted that the proposed ₦4.237 trillion 2026 budget must align with the priorities of Lagos residents and address their most pressing social and economic needs.

Obasa made the remark on Tuesday during Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s formal presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill at the Lagos Assembly complex, where the governor unveiled the “Budget of Shared Prosperity.”

The speaker said the budget should reinforce economic resilience, enhance citizens’ welfare, strengthen security structures, and accelerate infrastructural development across communities in the state.

He noted that Lagos attained its current status through years of innovation, strategic planning, and laws that have enabled residents to aspire, innovate, and succeed.

Obasa highlighted the Assembly’s achievements under his leadership, stating that over the past decade, lawmakers had passed more than 100 laws and over 1,500 resolutions targeted at improving governance and residents’ quality of life.

“We appreciate Mr Governor and his team for crafting a comprehensive budget that mirrors Lagos’ pursuit of growth and inclusive development,” Obasa said.
“Our greatness is not built on arrogance but on unity, sophistication, and a deep commitment to building for the future. These values remain central to our socio-economic identity and must guide all decisions on the proposed 2026 spending plan,” he added.

The speaker said members of the Assembly would now thoroughly scrutinise the budget to ensure that it reflects the collective aspirations of Lagosians, commending Sanwo-Olu’s leadership and acknowledging the wider national progress recorded under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
