A Norwegian court has sentenced Nigerian youth international Daniel Daga to six months in prison after finding him guilty of committing a sexual act without consent.

The judgment was delivered by the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court following a hearing into the case involving the 19-year-old midfielder.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered him to pay about $1,050 to cover legal costs related to the proceedings.

Daga currently plays for Molde FK and previously represented Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Prosecutors had requested the same penalty imposed by the court during the trial.

His lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, said the footballer rejects the ruling and insists the encounter occurred with consent.

According to her, the player is disappointed by the verdict and has indicated plans to appeal the judgment.

Molde FK confirmed that Daga will remain suspended from team activities while the legal process continues and the appeal is considered.
