The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has dismissed as false the reports claiming that 30 Boko Haram suspects were arrested in Lagos, urging residents to disregard the rumour in its entirety.

Jimoh, who spoke in a telephone interview, clarified that no terrorist was sighted or apprehended anywhere in the state, stressing that such unverified claims only serve to create unnecessary panic among Lagosians.

The Commissioner explained that the confusion may have arisen from a recent operation by officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), who arrested 27 individuals during a raid in the Lekki area for alleged fraudulent activities and possession of fake foreign currencies.

He assured the public that those arrested were not linked to terrorism, noting that they were foreigners of no fixed address handed over to the police after being detained by LAGESC operatives at their Bolade Oshodi office.

Meanwhile, LAGESC confirmed in a statement signed by its spokesman, Lukman Ajayi, that the suspects were apprehended for alleged illegal oil bunkering and possession of counterfeit naira notes, adding that their activities posed serious environmental and public safety risks.

“We discovered via intelligence reports how the activities of an unlicensed depot and oil bunkering enclave impacted the environment negatively, thereby constituting a threat to public health and safety,” said Corps Marshal Major Olaniyi Cole (rtd). “The place also provided cover for miscreants found in possession of fake naira notes used to transact at night from unsuspecting vendors.”
“The facility was being used for storage, adulteration, and distribution of petroleum products. Several drums filled with suspected adulterated diesel were found there,” he added.

In a related development, the Kogi State Police Command has also debunked rumours of bandits invading communities in Lokoja, describing the reports as fake news aimed at instilling fear. The Command said its tactical teams remain deployed to strategic locations and warned rumour peddlers of prosecution if caught spreading false alarms.
