A Nigerian national, Emmanuella Ikhanoba, has been apprehended by Indian authorities after she was allegedly caught transporting a large consignment of illegal drugs at a railway station in Surat, located in Gujarat State.

The arrest was executed by officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, who acted on credible intelligence and intercepted the suspect during a train journey.

According to officials, Ikhanoba had boarded a train from Delhi before she was tracked and stopped en route. A search conducted by operatives reportedly led to the discovery of over two kilograms of MDMA, a banned synthetic psychoactive substance.

Authorities estimated the value of the seized drugs at more than ₹2 crore, which converts to approximately N360 million, indicating the significant scale of the suspected trafficking operation.

Following her arrest, she was taken into custody and is now facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, a legislation known for its strict penalties against drug-related offences.

Investigators have launched a broader probe to determine the intended destination of the drugs and to identify other individuals who may be linked to the supply network.

In a related development, Indian police also confirmed the arrest of another Nigerian, identified simply as Ikechukwu, during a separate operation targeting a drug syndicate in Mahendragarh.

He was arrested alongside multiple suspects believed to be part of the network, with authorities recovering illicit substances, cash, counterfeit currency, and other items as investigations continue into the activities of the group.
