A 20-year-old Nigerian student, Khaleed Oladipo, has been stabbed to death in Leicester, England, in an incident that has shocked the local community and the Nigerian diaspora.
Oladipo, a second-year undergraduate at De Montfort University, was attacked on Tuesday evening near a busy campus area as he made his way home. Emergency services responded to the scene, but he was pronounced dead after sustaining multiple stab wounds.
The fatal attack occurred close to one of the university’s academic buildings, drawing immediate concern from students and staff who were still in the area at the time. Police cordoned off the location overnight while investigations began.
Oladipo, who arrived in the United Kingdom in September 2024, was studying cybersecurity. Friends and acquaintances described him as focused, driven, and well-liked within both academic and social circles.
Beyond his studies, he was known for his strong passion for football, having played the sport from a young age. Family members said he was a devoted Arsenal supporter and was believed to be heading home to watch a major football match when the attack occurred.
In an emotional statement, his family described his death as devastating, noting that he was deeply loved and a source of pride to them. They highlighted his close ties to family and his commitment to both education and sport.
UK police confirmed that an 18-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing and remains in custody. Authorities say inquiries are ongoing as they work to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
