Nigerian Man in UK Faces April Sentencing Over Rape Conviction

A Nigerian man living in the United Kingdom, Gift Oladele, is set to be sentenced in April after being convicted of raping a 19-year-old woman in North Wales.

The conviction follows a court process in which Oladele admitted to the offence, bringing an end to the trial phase and shifting focus to sentencing.

The incident occurred in September 2025 in Wrexham, where the victim was reportedly attacked while returning home at night. Prosecutors told the court that the assailant forced the young woman into a secluded wooded area, where the assault took place.

Details presented during proceedings indicated that the victim endured a traumatic experience during the attack, which has since been central to the prosecution’s case.

The case has also drawn attention to Oladele’s criminal history, as he had previously been convicted in 2022 for unlawfully detaining a woman in Manchester.

Following that earlier conviction, UK authorities initiated deportation proceedings against him, but the process was later halted after he successfully appealed the decision.

With his latest conviction secured, the court is expected to hand down a sentence in April, with the possibility of a lengthy prison term under UK law.
