Nigerian Man Fatally Stabbed in London; Two Suspects Charged With Murder

A 26-year-old Nigerian man, Ayowale Aladejana, was tragically stabbed to death in his apartment in New Cross, southeast London, prompting swift arrests and charges by British authorities.




Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public of an ongoing, thorough investigation. “Our thoughts are with Ayowale’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time,” she said. “We are pursuing all leads and encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward.”

The family of the deceased is receiving support from specially trained officers.

This tragic incident has shocked the Nigerian community in the UK and raised concerns about youth violence and community safety in London.

The investigation remains active as authorities seek to understand the full circumstances surrounding the killing.

According to the Metropolitan Police, two suspects—23-year-old Ben Wazabanga of Fairfax Road, Bedford, and 23-year-old Ronique Belfon of Morinsbury Road, Bedford have both been charged with murder. Wazabanga faces an additional charge for possession of a knife.


Wazabanga appeared before Croydon Magistrates’ Court today, while Belfon was arraigned at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. Both were remanded in custody.

The fatal incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, August 2, when officers were called to Monson Road around 7:26 p.m.






following reports of a stabbing. Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, responded, but Ayowale was pronounced dead at the scene despite their efforts.


A post-mortem examination conducted the following day revealed that Ayowale died from a stab wound to the chest.
