A Nigerian national has been taken into custody in India after law enforcement authorities reportedly found him in possession of cocaine during an anti-narcotics operation in Goa.
The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Omorigo Friday, was apprehended by operatives of the Goa Police Crime Branch during a targeted raid in the Pilerne area of North Goa. The operation, carried out last week, led to the seizure of nearly 32 grams of a substance suspected to be high-grade cocaine.
Police officials said the confiscated narcotics, described as a white crystalline powder, have an estimated value of over 15 lakh rupees on the international market. The arrest followed intelligence gathering and surveillance activities aimed at curbing drug distribution networks in the region.
Investigators disclosed that information obtained from the Nigerian suspect during questioning led to the arrest of another individual, identified as 42-year-old Sudhir Paleinkar, a resident of Sangolda in North Goa. He was picked up days after the initial operation.
Authorities believe the arrests may be linked to a broader drug trafficking network operating within the state. Efforts are ongoing to determine the origin of the seized substance and identify other possible collaborators.
Both men remain in police custody as investigations continue. They are expected to face prosecution under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, a law that imposes stiff penalties for drug possession and trafficking offences.
Indian security agencies have in recent years intensified operations against narcotics distribution, particularly in coastal regions such as Goa, which authorities say have become vulnerable to drug-related activities tied to both local and foreign nationals.
