Toronto police have taken a Nigerian caregiver into custody over allegations of assaulting residents at a group home for vulnerable adults in East Toronto. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Oghenemaro Dave Ejerua, faces seven counts of assault.

Police said the alleged incidents occurred throughout November 2025, during which several residents were reportedly harmed while under the care of Ejerua. Authorities described the situation as “disturbing,” noting the vulnerability of the affected individuals.

Officers were first alerted on the morning of December 10, 2025, following a call regarding potential abuse at the care facility located near Sibley and Dentonia Park avenues. Immediate response and preliminary investigations were conducted to assess the claims.

A formal investigation was launched, and police issued a public appeal for anyone with information to come forward. Community members and neighbors were asked to assist in identifying the suspect, which contributed to the eventual arrest.

Ejerua was arrested last week and formally charged with seven counts of assault.

Police confirmed that he remains in custody pending further court proceedings.

Authorities emphasized that the allegations are serious but have not yet been tested in court. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty under Canadian law.

The arrest has raised concerns among families of residents and advocacy groups, who have called for stricter monitoring of care homes and accountability for staff working with vulnerable populations.

Police continue to investigate the case, and anyone with additional information related to the incidents is urged to contact Toronto police. Court dates for Ejerua’s appearance have not yet been announced.
