Nigeria Pushes for Stronger Diaspora Partnerships to Drive Inclusive Development

Nigeria has intensified efforts to deepen engagement with its diaspora community as part of a broader strategy to promote inclusive national development. The move was highlighted during a high-level intergenerational dialogue held in London alongside President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to the United Kingdom.
Speaking at the forum, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development emphasized the importance of bridging generational and geographical divides, describing the engagement as a strategic platform for aligning experience with innovation in national development efforts.
She stressed that sustainable growth cannot be achieved without inclusive participation across age groups, professions, and global locations, noting that collaboration remains key to addressing Nigeria’s complex development challenges.
The Minister also spotlighted the administration’s women-focused development agenda, which aims to empower millions of women and girls through targeted policies and programmes designed to improve economic participation and social outcomes.
Highlighting Nigeria’s youthful population and large diaspora base, she described both as critical assets capable of driving innovation, investment, and long-term growth if effectively harnessed.
She further pointed to the significant role diaspora remittances play in supporting the economy, adding that structured engagement could unlock even greater contributions in areas such as enterprise development, skills transfer, and community initiatives.
Stakeholders at the event called for sustained collaboration and accountability, urging Nigerians abroad to move beyond dialogue by actively investing, mentoring, and supporting development programmes aimed at strengthening communities across the country.
