The Federal Government has taken a formal step toward strengthening its diplomatic presence abroad, as Letters of Credence were presented to newly appointed ambassadors designated for key international postings.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, handed over the official documents on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, authorising the envoys to represent Nigeria in their respective assignments.

Those cleared for deployment include Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, who is expected to serve in the United Kingdom; Ambassador Ayodele Oke, assigned to France; and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, designated as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.

The minister described the Letters of Credence as a vital diplomatic instrument used globally to formally introduce ambassadors to host countries and confirm their authority to act on behalf of their home nation.

She noted that the presentation marks a critical stage before the diplomats assume full duties, pending acceptance by their host nations, a process known as agrément.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu also congratulated the envoys, urging them to uphold Nigeria’s interests and project the country positively on the global stage throughout their assignments.

The development follows the earlier approval of dozens of ambassadorial nominees by President Tinubu, covering both career and non-career appointments across multiple countries and international organisations.

Officials say the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already commenced preparatory programmes for the envoys, who are expected to proceed to their duty posts once all diplomatic formalities are concluded.
