NiDCOM Urges Nigerians in France to Remain Calm, Respect Local Laws

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has urged Nigerians living in France to remain calm, avoid confrontation and comply with the country's laws amid concerns affecting their communities.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, made the appeal in a statement issued on Thursday, October 29, 2026, by the commission's Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun
Dabiri-Erewa called on Nigerians in France to exercise restraint, maintain public order and cooperate peacefully with lawful instructions from French authorities.
She cautioned against violence, provocation and the spread of rumours or unverified information, particularly on social media. She also encouraged Nigerians to maintain peaceful relationships with their neighbours and other communities, regardless of nationality, religion or background.
The NiDCOM chief stressed that Nigerians living abroad represent the country and have a responsibility to protect its image while respecting the laws and institutions of their host nation.
She advised individuals who believe their safety or rights are threatened to seek appropriate legal assistance and contact relevant emergency or consular services when necessary.
Dabiri-Erewa also called on Nigerian community leaders, students, families, professionals and associations across France to promote peace, unity and responsible conduct among their members.
She urged community leaders to work together to prevent tensions from escalating and encourage calm and orderly behaviour within Nigerian communities.
The commission reiterated the importance of exercising caution, relying on verified information and resolving concerns through lawful and peaceful means.
