The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has strongly condemned the killing of a Nigerian national, Emeka Christian, in Pune, India, describing the incident as senseless and deeply disturbing.

The commission said the victim reportedly died after being assaulted during a dispute linked to a romantic relationship, an incident that has sparked outrage within the Nigerian diaspora community.

NiDCOM expressed profound sympathy to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased, noting that the loss is heartbreaking and should never have occurred under any circumstance.

According to the commission, preliminary reports indicate that the matter escalated unnecessarily, highlighting the dangers of unresolved personal conflicts and the tragic consequences of violence.

NiDCOM called on Indian authorities to ensure a full, transparent, and timely investigation into the incident, stressing that justice must be pursued diligently to maintain public confidence in the legal process.

The commission also urged Nigerians living abroad to exercise restraint, patience, and maturity when dealing with personal disagreements, emphasizing dialogue and lawful means of conflict resolution.

It reminded Nigerians in the diaspora that they serve as informal representatives of the country and that their actions abroad contribute directly to how Nigeria is perceived globally.

NiDCOM reaffirmed its stance that violence has no place within the diaspora community and encouraged Nigerians everywhere to uphold peace, mutual respect, and respect for the laws of their host countries.
