The Nigerians in Diaspora Chamber of Commerce (NiDCC) has called on the Federal Government to place Nigerians abroad at the center of the country’s development and investment strategies.

Ms. Patience Ofure-Key, NiDCC President and former presidential aspirant, stressed that Nigerians in the diaspora should not be seen merely as remittance senders or ceremonial participants in national events.

She highlighted that remittances to Nigeria hit a five-year high of $23 billion in 2025, representing nearly 12 percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Ofure-Key urged that diaspora-linked capital be intentionally leveraged for infrastructure financing, co-investment initiatives, export platforms, and policy formulation, noting its growing significance in national development.

Citing international trade agreements, she emphasized the need for local content, technology transfer, and proper reintegration strategies for returning Nigerians to ensure tangible domestic benefits.

She also called for moral seriousness in governance, urging policymakers to actively involve capable Nigerian professionals at home and abroad in decision-making processes.

According to Ofure-Key, mobilizing domestic and diaspora human capital is crucial for sustainable development and reducing dependence on external solutions.

She concluded that Nigeria’s long-term economic growth, citizen confidence, and national dignity depend on strategic diaspora engagement and effective utilization of homegrown expertise.
