The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 708 Nigerians who were stranded in Niger Republic, as part of a coordinated repatriation effort by the Federal Government.

The returnees arrived in Kano on Monday through the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, where officials began documentation and profiling processes upon their arrival.

According to NEMA’s Kano Operations Office, the evacuees were transported from Niamey and brought into the country under arrangements facilitated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic authorities.

The group comprised 292 males and 416 females, including children, drawn from several states such as Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Borno, Jigawa, and others across the country.

Authorities confirmed that the returnees were provided with immediate humanitarian support, including meals, temporary shelter, and essential relief materials such as blankets, mosquito nets, and hygiene kits.

Medical teams were also deployed at the reception centre to attend to individuals requiring urgent care, with severe cases set for referral to designated health facilities.

Officials noted that the exercise reflects a coordinated national response involving multiple agencies, aimed at assisting vulnerable Nigerians abroad who are unable to return independently.

The returnees are expected to be transported back to their respective states after the completion of verification procedures, while authorities continue to caution citizens against undertaking unsafe migration journeys in search of better opportunities.
