The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to stage a protest at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs on March 10, citing concerns over the treatment of Nigerians in India.

The student body claims that Nigerian citizens and students in India have faced harassment, discrimination, and inhumane treatment. NANS accused the ministry of ignoring a petition submitted earlier, which requested urgent diplomatic engagement with Indian authorities and closer liaison with the Indian Embassy in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by its Vice President, Special Duties, Comrade Ahmad Muhammad Mallawa, NANS described the ministry’s silence as “unacceptable” and called for the resignation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar.

The association emphasized that protecting Nigerians abroad is both a constitutional and moral duty of the government. It said the protest aims to compel the government to act swiftly and safeguard the rights and dignity of Nigerian students overseas.

NANS also expressed disappointment that, under the current administration, there has been no public response to the issues raised, raising questions about the commitment to citizens’ welfare abroad.

The protest is expected to draw national attention to the plight of Nigerians in India and urge immediate diplomatic intervention

The students’ group reiterated its call for urgent measures to prevent further maltreatment of Nigerians abroad while pressuring the ministry to engage proactively with the diaspora community.
