The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has announced that key sectors such as fintech, agriculture, and digital innovation will take centre stage at the 2026 Nigerian Diaspora Economic Conference (NAIDEC). The event is scheduled to hold in Abuja as a prelude to the main conference set for August 13 to 16 in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada.

NiDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this during a media briefing in Abuja, noting that the conference is designed to serve as a results-oriented platform for investment and collaboration. She explained that the initiative would focus on building structured engagements that directly contribute to Nigeria’s long-term economic growth.

According to her, the conference will spotlight high-impact sectors including ICT, agro-processing, mining, renewable energy, infrastructure, healthcare, real estate, and financial services. She added that the goal is to create a marketplace that drives tangible outcomes such as job creation and technology transfer.

Dabiri-Erewa said Canada was selected as host for the main event due to its strong Nigerian diaspora population, which continues to excel across various industries. She noted that cities such as Toronto, Calgary, Waterloo, and Montreal have become hubs for Nigerian professionals making significant global contributions.

She further revealed that the conference would facilitate direct business partnerships, encourage investor engagement, and support the signing of agreements aimed at boosting economic development. Plans are also in place to strengthen educational collaboration through exchange programmes between Nigerian and international institutions.

The NiDCOM boss stated that the commission is working closely with relevant authorities, including diplomatic missions and the Ontario government, to ensure smooth coordination. The event will also feature cultural showcases, including the Flavours of Nigeria Festival, alongside engagements with stakeholders in the creative sector.

Dabiri-Erewa urged entrepreneurs, policymakers, and diaspora professionals to take advantage of the platform to shape policy direction and unlock investment opportunities. She added that efforts are underway to simplify visa processes for participants, with registration details expected to be released in due course.
