MIPAD Appoints Mwende Mbevi as Canada Country Director Ahead of 2026 Top 10 List Release

In preparation for the 2026 release of its Top 10 Most Influential People of African Descent to Watch in Canada, The Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) has appointed Mwende Mbevi as its new Canada Country Director. This strategic appointment strengthens MIPAD’s presence across North America and reinforces its commitment to elevating African excellence globally.

MIPAD is a global civil society initiative aligned with the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent, focused on highlighting and celebrating the achievements, leadership, and positive impact of people of African descent around the world.

With over 25 years of experience in development and humanitarian service, Mwende Mbevi brings extensive expertise and a proven record of impact. She holds an undergraduate degree in Communications & Community Development from Daystar University, Kenya, and is a distinguished graduate of Momentum Education. Mwende also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology and is a certified life coach, showcasing her people-centered leadership approach.



Throughout her career, Mwende has received multiple awards and recognitions for her dedication to humanitarian work, youth development, and women’s empowerment. Her advocacy spans critical global issues such as poverty alleviation, access to education, climate action, and sustainable development, reflecting her deep commitment to creating opportunities for underserved communities.

She is the founder of the Seriana Foundation, where she leads programs focused on sustainable water access, youth empowerment, and community development. Through this work, Mwende has demonstrated a strong ability to turn vision into action and deliver measurable social impact.

As Canada Country Director, Mwende will spearhead efforts to identify, celebrate, and support exceptional leaders within the African diaspora. She will also build and strengthen partnerships, while amplifying Canadian voices within the global African excellence ecosystem.

Commenting on her appointment, Mwende described her leadership style as responsive, vulnerable, and connected, emphasizing her commitment to uplifting others and using philanthropy as a tool for collective progress.
